Seeking Holy Matrimony

"O All-Good-Lord, I know that any lasting happiness in my life depends upon loving Thee with all my soul and with all my heart, and upon acting according to Thy Holy Will in all things. Direct my soul, O my God, and fill my heart; I want to please thee alone for thou art my Creator and God. Preserve me from pride and self-love; may reason modesty and chastity adorn me.

Idleness is hateful to Thee and breeds vice; give me the inclination to perform fruitful labor and bless my work. Since Thy law commands people to live in chaste matrimonial union, lead me, Holy Father, to this blessed calling, not for the satisfaction of my passions, but for the fulfillment of Thy commandment. For Thou hast said: it is not good that man should be alone, and, having created a woman as a helper, blessed them to be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth (Gen. 1:28; 2:18).

Hear my humble prayer which I send up to thee from the depths of my heart. Give me a spouse who is honest and pious, so that we, through our love and harmony, can praise Thee, the Compassionate God; the Father, the Son and the "Holy Spirit," now and ever and unto the ages of ages. Amen.

O LORD JESUS CHRIST OUR GOD, our Sweet Savior, Who taught us to pray always for each other, so that by thus fulfilling the holy law we will be made worthy of Thy mercy: look down with compassion on our married life and keep from all perilous falls, from enemies both visible and invisible, my husband/wife whom Thou hast granted me, that we may pass our time together until the end with oneness of mind. Grant him/her health, strength, and fullness of wisdom enlightened from above, so that he/she may be able to fulfill his/her duties all the days of this life according to Thy will and commandments. Protect and keep him/her from temptations, and may he/she be able to bear and conquer those temptations that come upon him/her. Strengthen him/her in right faith, strong hope, and perfect love, so that together we may do good deeds and that we may order all our life according to Thy divine ordinances and commandments.

O Greatly-Merciful Lord, hear us who humbly pray to Thee, and send Thy divine blessing in truth on our married life and on all our good deeds, for it is Thine to hear and have mercy on us, O our God, and to Thee we send up glory: to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, both now and ever, and to the ages of ages. Amen.

O LORD JESUS CHRIST, our sweet Savior, Who hast commanded us, saying: "Love ye one another, even as I have loved you," kindle in my whole being the holy flame of love of Thee and my neighbor, that in all things I may do Thy will.

O holy Lord, keep also my brother(s) and sister(s) ever in this holy love. Grant them wisdom, health, a good life, and Thy Divine grace, so that they may walk in Thy ways and do those things that are well-pleasing to Thee. O sweetest Lord Jesus, help us by Thy grace, so that from this time until the end of our life we may love one another, for: "What is more good and more beautiful than for brothers to live together in unity"? Thus, O Lord, hear our prayer and be Thou merciful to us. For Thou art good, merciful, and the Lover of men, and to Thee we send up glory: to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, both now and ever, and to the ages of ages. Amen.

O HOLY LORD. King of heaven and earth. look down with mercy and compassion from the height of Thy holy dwelling. upon our home. Grant health and everything good to my Father and Mother. So that they may take care of us and everyone in our household. And help us all to do what is good and pleasing to Thee. Amen.

Another prayer:

O LORD JESUS CHRIST OUR GOD, Who in Thy childhood and youth in Nazareth was submissive and obedient to Thy Most Pure Mother and Thy holy Provider and Guardian Joseph, leaving us an image of a pure childhood, well-pleasing to God and men; do Thou Thyself, O Lover of men, enlighten me, help me, and inflame me with Thy love, that I may be submissive in everything to Thee and to my parents who gave me birth, raised me, have taken care of me, and nourished me.

Help me, O Lord, to always be obedient to them and to honor them, as Thou didst command us, saying: "Honor thy Father and thy Mother, that it may be well with thee and that thou mayest live many years upon the earth." I pray Thee, O Lord, to keep my parents safe, and grant them grace, mercy, health, good temper, strength, love, holy zeal, and all that is necessary and profitable, so that they may bring us up well in Thy truth, with respect for holy things and for the good of society.

O Lord Almighty, all things are possible to Thee: help me and my parents, that we may do all that is pleasing to Thee, for Thou art blessed to the ages of ages. Amen.

Another Prayer:

O ALL-GOOD LORD GOD, Who hast granted me good parents, that through them I may be a sharer in many good things; O Thou Who dost will that I should be thankful to them for the life Thou hast granted me through them and for all the care they have had and still have for me, I pray Thee with humility for their health and salvation, O God, Who art All-Compassionate, but also All-Righteous, Who blesses children for their parents, but often by Thy right hand punishes them for their sins. Receive my humble thanksgiving for the benefactions which Thou hast poured forth unceasingly on my parents. Send them Thy blessings also in the future, O All-Good Master, and forgive all sins which they may have committed, being human. Teach me to honor in them Thy strength, and to be grateful and thankful to them for the life which Thou hast given me through them, and for all the cares which they have had and still have for me. Help me to follow Thy holy commandments, so that I may be submissive and obedient to them, and so that I may do nothing which embitters and saddens them. Reward them, O Most Good One, with Thy goodness for the love and unsleeping care which they always have for me. Protect them from all misfortunes and sorrows. Grant them a long, blessed, quiet, and peaceful life. Make them partakers in the blessedness of Thy Saints, multiply the fruits of their labors, make Thy goodness overflow upon them, that they may increase both in virtues and material abundance, that we may bless Thee all the days of our lives. Amen.

Christ blesses the childrenO LORD, GOD OF HEAVEN AND EARTH, Who by Thy wisdom hast created man from earth and hast breathed into his face the breath of life, making him a living man whose life is both temporal and eternal; and Who didst bless him and say: "Increase and multiply, fill the earth and rule over it;" and Who in Cana of Galilee through Thine Only Son, Jesus Christ, didst bless marriage and thereby the bearing of sons and daughters--with deep humility we pray to Thee: help us by Thy grace always to fulfill our duties as parents in bringing up our children well.

O Lord God of mercies, have mercy on us and on our home, and in Thy great goodness, pour out Thine abundant grace over all our children. Have mercy, O Lord, on us and on our children whom Thou hast given us.

O Greatly-Merciful Lord, Who givest food to the birds of the sky and to all living things on the earth, Who watchest over the flower that sprouts amidst the rocky cliffs: nourish, bring up, and protect well our children also. Help us, O Lord, to plant in their souls what is good and useful for the Holy Church and the nation, and what is well-pleasing to Thee, that Thy holy name may be exalted through them. Fill them, O Lord, with the enlightened wisdom and holy understanding which come down from Thee. Protect them from all the snares of enemies both visible and invisible. Command Thine Angels as always to be their enlightened guides and counselors in all good works. We pray Thee, O Lord, to open their minds, that they may know Thee as much as possible; Amen.

When the girl's parents left the bedroom and closed the door behind them, Tobiah arose from bed and said to his wife, "My love, get up. Let us pray and beg our Lord to have mercy on us and to grant us deliverance." She got up, and they started to pray and beg that deliverance might be theirs. He began with these words: "Blessed are you, O God of our fathers; praised be your name forever and ever. Let the heavens and all your creation praise you forever. You made Adam and you gave him his wife Eve to be his help and support; and from these two the human race descended. You said, 'It is not good for the man to be alone; let us make him a partner like himself.' Now, Lord, you know that I take this wife of mine not because of lust, but for a noble purpose. Call down your mercy on me and on her, and allow us to live together to a happy old age." They said together, "Amen, amen," and went to bed for the night.
